It’s never a dull game when the Boston Bruins and the Ottawa Senators meet up lately. This time around, it was the Senators great first period that led them to the 6-3 victory.

Make it five wins in a row for the Ottawa Senators! They rode their phenomenal first period to another crucial win in their playoff push. The Senators scored four goals in the first period to go into the intermission up 4-1. From there, the Boston Bruins made things interesting, but Linus Ullmark helped keep things in the Senators favour with a save of the year candidate late in the second. In the end it was Senators 6, Bruins 3. Let’s dive into the details on the Sens 35th win of the season!

Batherson’s Big Game

There’s been plenty of talk about Dylan Cozens needing a change of scenery. What about what bringing in Cozens has meant to Batherson’s game? The line of Cozens, Batherson and Perron has been great over the last few games. It’s not just the offense, it’s their style of play. They are a handful while cycling the puck in the offensive zone. As for the offense, Batherson managed his first multi-goal game since December 11th, and also added an assist. In these last four games he’s registered 16 hits, including four tonight.

Third Line Magic

As detailed above, the second line had themselves a great game. Let’s not forget about the third line, though. Pinto, Greig and Amadio are asked to contribute a lot defensively. They won’t always be given the prime offensive opportunities. That’s what makes the recent offense numbers of these three guys so impressive. Tonight, Pinto and Greig both scored a goal and an assist, and Amadio had an assist of his own. It should be no surprise that when Travis Green needs his team to come up big defensively, this line is often called upon.

Additional Notes

David Pastrnak has turned into a Sens killer. I’m sure a lot of teams feel that way, but here are his numbers against Ottawa over the last three seasons: 11 games, 10 goals, 18 points. To no one’s surprise, he scored tonight. In the intro I mentioned the Ottawa Senators winning their 35th game of the season. Last season, they won 37 games total. I also mentioned Ullmark’s save of the year candidate in the intro. That save was so nice it needed to be mentioned twice. The game was starting to tilt in Boston’s favour, but Ullmark’s diving save stole the show. Incredible.

Having Tyler Kleven score in back to back games is a nice bonus. I don’t think he’s a finished product yet by any stretch. If he can get a little stronger and continue to develop offensively, he’ll be a really good player. Curious about Fabian Zetterlund’s statline? He played 9 and a half minutes, registering two hits and two blocked shots.
